Bagolino, Carnival of 2014

Bagolino (Brescia) is a small village in the Alps, in Northern Italy. It is the place of a Carnival celebration characterized by an intense musical tradition, with dances and masques, and bands of violins, locally made, which play specific musical repertories. Historical evidences demonstrate the existence of the event in Bagolino for many centuries.

Scholars and ethnomusicologists ‘discovered’ this carnival in the ’70s of the last century in some landmark research, which popularized the place and the event.

Since then, Bagolino attracted each year an increasing number of folk music lovers, amateur videoreporters and photographers.

Today, scholars interested in Bagolino, beside the old dances and masques, find also other intriguing topics to explore.

PhotoCarnival is a reflection about the media in the field in the form of a short video essay.
